Exciting, isn't it? We are just a few months away from the first England-less major soccerball tournament in 14 years. When Taylor's boys fucked up in 1993, the Prem was in its infancy and football was yet to become the great big fuck-off THING it is today. (anybody want to buy some shares in JJB?). How is the country, the economy, and more pertinently to this concern, the footballing press going to cope with it? I can't wait.
One cert: the "England are out. Who should we support?" filler piece. Guardian will be there first, obviously, but will be followed by all the rest. The question is, what will the most "opinion" opinion on this be?
As far as I can see, the frontrunners are:
Poland - but maybe too London-centric and obvious
Germany - maybe too Guardian for even the Guardian
Austria - spirit of Havant & Waterlooville (who could probably beat Austria)
What do we think? (Obviously, I will be supporting France.)
The other dead cert is "In a way, it's better that England haven't etc" which is of course indefensible bollocks.

Surely France is the most likely Guardian bet? "So many of their players are here, adding some elan to the rough and tumble of the Premiership so it'd be like supporting your local team; also, they do make some marvelous cheeses."
And then there's perennial "dark horse"* Spain. La Liga, now *there's* a competitive league, makes a mockery of the Premiership's so-called status as so-called best league in the world. Also, handsome Fabregas! Cultured Alonso! Tapas!
* Are Croatia still a dark horse?
I shall be supporting Croatia, due to the minor man-crush I have on their manager.
The Guardian pick will be Greece. They won it last time you know. You may hear this fact more than once.
Actually, I'll refine that slightly. The media will pick the phrase "This year's Greece" and flog it all the way to a semi-final defeat by a well organised Italian side.
Hey, I am checking this blog using the phone and this appears to be kind of odd. Thought you'd wish to know. This is a great write-up nevertheless, did not mess that up.
