god i hate the wisdom of crowds. crowds are a bunch of cunts, quite frankly. and national teams do represent the country in a real sense, the sense being that they are the best footballers from that country.
I would support popularly elected terms for England managers, however.
by the way i caught the final of this last night on Sky (repeated 8 months after the event), it was truly amazing - the first time i have ever felt any desire to go to australia:
